The Muppets Take Manhattan 1984

The Muppets 2011 and Muppets Most Wanted 2014 features aimed to return to lovable puppets to their former glory; Frank Oz’s sequel is clearly the template for these films, and yet it’s surprisingly low on guest stars and in-jokes that seem to be the series staple. Instead, The Muppets are the stars, with Kermit and friends wrestling with the problems of putting on a Broadway production. Cameos from Liza Minnelli, Art Carney, Elliot Gould, Joan Rivers and Gregory Hines are less likely to set kids buzzing than Selena Gomez or Lady Gaga, but with jolly songs like Together Again, The Muppets Take Manhattan is a slightly entry in the series, and a welcome breakthrough for Rizzo the Rat, who enjoys his own time in the spotlight here.
