P.S. 2004

Director Dylan Kidd’s follow up to the raucous Roger Dodger was an adaptation of Helen Schulman’s novel, featuring good work from Laura Linney, Gabriel Byrne, Paul Rudd and Topher Grace. Linney plays Louise Harrington, a woman who still holds a candle for her dead high-school sweetheart, and who comes to believe that he’s been reincarnated as F Scott Fienstadt (Grace), a young student she meets through her work as an admissions officer. Byrne and Macia Gay Harden also spring from Ann’s past, but it’s the way Kidd evokes Ann’s fragile blossoming at the thought of an impossible love made real that makes this peculiar but engaging comedy-drama play, with Linney as excellent as ever.
