Blue City 1986

Judd Nelson created such an iconic role as John Bender in John Hughes’s The Breakfast Club that it’s been a struggle for audiences to accept him in any other role. His break for stardom fizzled despite interesting work opposite John Hurt in Bob Clark’s courtroom drama From The Hip, but the little seen Blue City was probably his finest hour outside John Hughes. Breakfast Club producer Michelle manning directs from a novel by Ross Macdonald, and nerdy Ally Sheedy matches up to Nelson again, this time as his love interest. Nelson plays Billy turner, a rebel with a cause who returns to his Florida home-town. Walter Hill and Lukas Heller fashioned a tight little crime movie, built around the angry figure of Turner, heading for hell like Hamlet on his souped-up motorcycle.
